My Thoughts on the Pandemic and Social Media 8/2/20

Robbie on a family trip

Good or bad…This how I feel about trusting social media for medical advice.

When our son got sick, we used masks, we practiced social distancing, we missed out on many events, but guess what…we kept our child safe as long as we could and I would do it all again in a heartbeat. This is what cancer families do all the time.

When we were looking for medical treatments, we didn’t go to Facebook or watch the news.  We didn’t ask…I wonder what the Republicans or Democrats think about his treatment? We didn’t trust some random doctors on youtube. We didn’t trust our friends and strangers that reached out to us with random ideas for cures…yes they did!! We didn’t listen to the first orthopedic specialist that told us not to worry.

Who did we trust? Experts in their field in the area of his cancer. We trusted current medical journals, which I read for hours and hours. We trusted God to stay by our side as we found medical care for our son and as we grieve his loss.

Now we are having a global pandemic. Who are you trusting?

We are only trusting medical professionals and the scientists who have been studying this virus… #stayinghome #stayingsafe

We couldn’t agree more. We do occasionally hear from people on Facebook who are very sure that they want to try some of these unproven remedies for coronavirus if they fall victim to the disease. As for us, we’ll be going with whatever the scientists and doctors say, and not the doctors who are certain that people are having sex with demons. Our pastor has an upcoming sermon series on why Evangelical Christians are falling for so many
of the conspiracy theories that are out there on social media. We’re anxious to hear what he has to say and disgusted that so many supposed Christians are so darn gullible. They are way too prone to let their politics get in the way of their good judgment.
