On February 1st 2016, Robbie had been in treatment in Oklahoma with MD Anderson coordinating with Robbie’s Dr. His blood counts had dropped dangerously low and even with blood transfusions, they wouldn’t come back up. It was looking like we were losing him, because he couldn’t have further treatments with his blood counts so low. He was getting weaker each day and was even too weak to walk.
We sold our old van because it couldn’t go on long trips and bought a newer used van that could hold all of Robbie’s equipment and took off for Houston. We didn’t have a place to stay, we didn’t know if Jim would be allowed to work remotely, we didn’t have any idea how we were going to finance living in Houston, and we had no idea how long we would be gone. We literally left laundry undone in the laundry room, projects started and sitting out etc…and left.
We had one goal…to try to save Robbie’s life. Thanks to the excellent care and treatment at MD Anderson, Robbie lived for 3 more years.
