4 years ago today, Robbie was starting his senior year at The University of Tulsa with a double major in mathematics and computer science. He was going to graduate in December and already had a job. I was teaching 3rd grade with a great group of students and a super teaching team.
We met to go to an orthopedic specialist for a second opinion on his leg. The first orthopedic specialist told us not to worry, but Robbie had started limping, because he had so much pain in his leg, so I set up an appointment with another specialist.
The Doctor walked into our room, while he was talking on his cell phone to an oncologist. He paused long enough to flash Robbie’s leg X-ray on a large screen…point to a large tumor by his knee and tibia and said…he probably has bone CANCER! A few days later we learned that he had a rare bone cancer called osteosarcoma.
4 years of treatments, surgeries, and pain. We lived off and on in Houston until we finally decided to move to Houston permanently. Robbie rarely complained and the doctors and nurses loved him. He called his sloths…his sloth army against cancer.
It has been 6 months since he became our angel and we miss him so much. ❤

Cindy, the strength that your family showed while immersed in this fight was incredible. And the depth of your love of each other was amazing to see. Take care
